Integrated Preschool and Music

My students need an updated selection of musical instruments with songs on CD.

My Students

The instruments that are currently available to my students were inherited when I started teaching the Integrated Preschool Class 21 years ago.

The children in the Oxford Public Preschool are a mixture of typically developed children and children with special needs.

The preschool contains 8 sessions divided between two teachers in two classrooms. Each teacher has four half-day sessions. The materials requested will be utilized primarily by the teacher placing the order. However, she will gladly share them with the other teacher and her students.

My Project

The instruments requested will provide the children with safer instruments to use since the current instruments are over 21 years old and breaking. The Music Bank will provide the special needs and the typical child a picture to accompany the song that they would like for the class to sing as well as provide the teacher and staff with the words to the song chosen. I have also ordered the accompanying CD so that if the staff are unfamiliar with the tune to the song, they will be able to hear it before teaching it to the children. Younger staff do not have a repertoire of classic children's songs in their personal history, I am sad to say.

Children's songs bring an introduction of phonemic awareness, rhythm, rhyme and age-appropriate vocabulary to each child that grown-up music does not offer.
