Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” by Dr. Seuss. I love this quote because a book can take the reader to a magical land or across the globe. My school is located in the city of Camden.
The city Camden is known as one of the poorest cities in the nation whose public schools are well below the national and state standards.
In order to further embed the college dreams in our youth and bring up the state standard, I believe it starts with reading. It is vital for students to be exposed to a good literary text whether it's on a Kindle book or plain, old paperback.
My Project
My students need games and activities that focus on reading, letter recognition, and writing, as well as STEM activities to explore with at Learning Center time. Our students will use these materials to explore their ability through building, drawing, counting, making letters and sounds, and then words! The STEM activities are developed to introduce kids to the STEM design process as a way to solve problems—students will plan, build, test and then improve their designs until they are successful. These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together. They will be able to use these manipulatives during our whole group and small group time. Your generous donation to our project will improve our First Grade classroom by building a stronger reader and writer. This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
