This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As technology sprints ahead faster and faster, I strive to keep our classroom current. Just when we've caught up, something new comes along! Five years ago, my students' challenge was manipulating the computer mouse. Now I face the task of keeping up with their skills and an iPad would be ideal!
I have 2 classes of 18 4 year olds motivated to learn about everything!
They are enrolled in the School Readiness Language Development Program (SRLDP). Primarily English language learners who qualify for free lunch, the goal of this program, unique to LAUSD, is language development. Students receive instruction in their primary language, Spanish, as well as English language development, math, science, & social studies. They also enjoy art, music and P.E. activities.
Technology Standards are also part of the pre-kindergarten curriculum. Many students now have access to technology at home and it is apparent, yet others do not. Children are expected to achieve basic computer skills by year's end, but I'd like to provide the opportunity for more with an Apple iPad.
My Project
An Apple iPad will offer my students a new type of technology to practice and master basic skills that are the foundation of future academic success. Applications for counting, patterning, geometry, and number sense will cover math essentials. Letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and rhyming applications will boost their early literacy skills. Of course, that's just the beginning! Once we've gotten the iPad fundamentals under our belt, there's no limit to explore and discover. The iPad will be utilized by small groups, student partners, and individuals. Its portability also provides the opportunity for maximum utility wherever we need it.
Access to technology is necessary for my students' achievement of grade level standards.
An Apple iPad will provide a wealth of opportunities and resources for learning and practice in all curricular areas. It will facilitate cooperation between students to further their technical abilities as well as enhance their overall academic achievement. The world of technology is moving along and we need to move with it!
