This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, our Charter School added 6th grade, so I teach 7 grades a week. While we have an influx of students and only a few leave, I see over 450 students a week for an hour. One of the biggest classes is third grade, with 29 in each classroom. Having enough instruments is hard to maintain when you don't have a Music budget.
My goals for this project are to fill in the gaps of my unpitched and pitched percussion instruments.
This year my students are ready to move onto Alto recorders and continue to become stronger in their reading and learning skills. The large volume of students in third and sixth grade make it hard to do Ukuleles because, they have to share and students struggle to stay engaged when they are sharing. I am also short on hand drums and need Ukulele picks.
We have many students from other nationalities and Ethnicities, and I can't wait to make this project a reality and to make my classroom blossom and grow with continued Musicians and exploration of singing, dancing, playing, and performing.
