This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have been frugal for as long as we could, and we have reused our instrumental music method books from year to year. Now, we must replace the books that are lost, missing pages, or are falling apart from use by eager young musicians!

My students are fourth and fifth graders who start learning an instrument in their first year of instruction, and then continue in their second year by participating in a larger ensemble.

They are inquisitive young folks who are not afraid to explore and try new things. They seem to really enjoy their music class, and they consider it a safe environment for taking on daunting tasks. The school where they attend is located in the heart of a big city, and its entire student body qualifies for the free lunch program. Its teachers and staff give it their all to provide a nurturing environment for the students.

My Project

The resources requested will be used to help reinforce the musical skills and concepts introduced in class. The musical selections in these books include exercises, folk songs, and themes from famous classical masterpieces, all of which contribute to developing the students' instrumental technique, music reading skills, and musical independence. Having these method books will also help the students become aware of the scope of their learning, track their own progress, and embark on more advanced tasks should they wish to do so.

Funding for arts education in my school district has diminished greatly from the level it had been five years ago.

The budget for materials and supplies is virtually nonexistent. Donations to support this project will give a much needed boost for the instrumental music program at my school. Having the resources requested by this project will not only enhance instruction during the lessons; it will also foster structured study in the students' individual practice at home.
