My Students

Our middle school is a Title I school with over 80% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Over the last four years, I have been blessed to teach an elective course called AVID.

In AVID, we prepare students for rigorous curriculum that they will encounter in advanced courses as well as help them build skills for college and to be successful in future careers.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, and most of them will be first generation college students. They are driven, hard workers that truly want to learn.

My Project

Who doesn't love Harry Potter? When you are first introduced to his Wizarding World you become engulfed in spells, quittach matches, and wish desperately for a Dobby of your very own.

Kano's Harry Potter Coding Wand gives kids the experience of being a student at Hogwarts while providing an opportunity to learn twenty-first century skills while coding.

I would love to be able to use these Kindle Fires along with the Harry Potter Coding Wand Kits with my AVID STEM students. First, students will work to build their wands, and then we will utilize the 70+ built in challenges as Fun Friday activities while working on our coding skills! They will make feathers fly, goblets multiply, fire flow, pumpkins grow, and more. Please help make our Harry Potter dreams a reality!
