My Students
“Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.” - Maria Montessori
I am a first year teacher striving to provide my students with as many real-world educational experiences as possible. My goal is not only to prepare my students for first grade, but for their future.
I am a kindergarten teacher in a public, rural elementary school in South Carolina.
There are 15 girls and 6 boys in our kindergarten family. About half of the students in my classroom are on either free or reduced lunch and are unable to afford the classroom supplies they need to succeed. We are all very different, but each day we work together to explore, grow, and learn. We start out each morning by saying, "We are the class of 2027, and today we are going to have a FANTASTIC day!"
It is my hope that by instilling academic and social confidence, I am laying a foundation for my kindergartners that will help them succeed in their academic careers, and beyond. Please help me in providing real-world learning experiences for my little scholars!
My Project
Imagine: You are a five year old and this is your first day in school. You walk in to a new, brightly colored room and you are surrounded by 20+ brand new people your age. You are overwhelmed with both nervous and excited feelings. You are greeted by your teacher. You see that your name is already on an array of school supplies. She is fully prepared for you! You feel so excited!
The beginning of the year in kindergarten can be an very anxious time for little learners. By having the opportunity to work over the summer to prepare school supplies, I would be able to have my classroom completely ready the moment they step in the door on our first day. The folders, sheet protectors, labels and stickers will be used to create their daily reading and communication folders. These folders help establish a classroom routine quickly (and routine is so necessary for little ones!) Dry erase markers and laminating pouches will be used to create age appropriate work stations to make learning fun!
Kindergarten is such an important and foundational year.
It's a time for students to develop a love for learning that will extend throughout their lives. Having adequate school supplies for my students at the beginning of the year will quickly promote a love for learning and a sense of comfort in the classroom. I believe that my little learners will achieve wonderful things this upcoming school year. Help them see that they are able to achieve anything!
