Instead of Throwing in the Towel, We Will Wash It!
Help me give my students an opportunity to reinforce functional living skills by providing laundry detergent in order to practice washing clothes.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a high school, special ed class in a 109-year-old high school that services those with low-income and Title I needs. Our class consists of incredible students with a wide range of abilities from autism to speech language impairments and cognitive delays.
Caring, enthusiastic, energetic, and curious are just a few words that describe my incredible students.
Every day is a new adventure when we enter our doors. We have quite an assortment of interests and skills and we like to see how many different ways we can incorporate them into our daily lives.
My Project
My project is for a supply of laundry detergent for our special education program.
For most people, a large load of laundry detergent does not seem very exciting.
We are one of six classrooms on our campus that focus on functional daily living skills. For us, on the other hand, our crew would be ever so excited to see these items arrive!
Laundry detergent for us means two things. The first is our students are getting engaged with activities, gaining everything they can educationally, physically, and sensory. Many times these activities can become quite messy!
Another need for laundry detergent is to help our teen students to build transition skills in order to be a more self-sufficient adult. While we are grateful for the washer and dryer that we have, laundry detergent goes pretty quickly throughout our 50+ students. Having a supply to work from would be incredible!
More than half of students from low‑income households
