This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help! Art is elementary! I teach Kindergarten and ESL at a Title One school in New Mexico. My school is 100% free lunch and breakfast. I work with a very sweet and deserving population of underprivileged students.

My students simply love art! They beg for it on a daily basis. Our school has art every other year for 1 hour every other week, that is simply not enough. This year my students get music but no art. Due to budget cuts, I am allotted no funds to purchase art materials. They need art, this is a strength for many of my student.

If I had paints, proper art papers, paint brushes, paint cups, and other art materials, it would easy for me to start implementing art studio on frequent basis in my classroom. My students are creative beings who love to express themselves through art. Every child is an artist and at the tender age of 5 they deserve the opportunity to express their individual talents and uniqueness. Due to the stress on academics, art, music, and social-emotional skills are left in the dust! I know as an early childhood teacher, the importance of teaching to the whole child. Having art studio and open ended art experiences as opposed to art projects is the perfect way to do so.

Thank you so much for making art a reality for my sweet little Kindergarten students.
