Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students have an extended school day and an extended school year. They are taught the Common Core standards through a vigorous and rounded curriculum. Every student takes math, science, English, history, physical education, and enrichment. Students participate in a variety of extracurricular opportunities and events throughout the year, including clubs. Moreover, the majority of our students attend our after-school program to get homework help and tutoring.

Our students are back in the classroom, ready to learn.

Our students come to school in an open and caring environment. We celebrate learning and success in our school. They are so eager to come to school every day. I just want them to get what they came for--an excellent education (even from home)!

My Project

As a middle school teacher, I aim to inspire students to become lifelong readers. I share my passion for reading and how books have transformed my life. My students aspire to become professional athletes or people of greatness. I want to help them get there with these biographies for kids. By reading these stories they will learn from the success and failures of people they admire. They will become inspired to overcome obstacles in their lives as they pursue their dreams and goals.

These books will hook my student into reading.

The more they read, the more they will want more books. I want my student-athletes to have options that will appeal to them in our very limited classroom library. A classroom library should have a variety of books but that variety should be equitable. I want all my students to feel welcome as readers. I want them to feel that there will always be a book just for them.

As my students read more and more, they will develop life and academic skills. These include problem-solving, critical thinking, resilience, and taking on chances by building their confidence as people and as readers. I know my students will love these books! I can't wait to get them into their hands.
