My students need children's books to use as mentor texts for writing instruction & technology items to support learning including a document camera & wireless game.
It is a challenge for students to learn how to write well without being exposed to good writing samples. Students need rich literature and examples to illustrate various writing strategies when learning how to write. Technology supporting this objective enhances their learning experience.
My students are budding writers!
Our school is making a school-wide focus to strengthen students' writing skills. Our 5th grade class is ready to explore various writing styles and strategies in their own writing. We need YOUR HELP to donate wonderful books to use as writing mentor texts. With technology to support this goal, we can make sure everyone in class has visual access to the lessons and video reproductions of their writing as well. My students love to be on camera and will enjoy writing stories they can act out and post on our blog.
My Project
The children's books I've requested illustrate superb writing strategies which provide the students with popular examples of different writing techniques. They are exciting, motivating, humorous & touching stories that the student will remember and be able to pull from throughout their schooling. Technology encourages students to engage in learning. A document camera projects the books or other materials to the class so all students can clearly see and learn together. What better way to improve student presentations than to record them and allow the students to self-reflect on their performance. Video is a medium they are comfortable with and enjoy using. Another way the items I've requested will change our classroom for the better is by making learning FUN! The wireless buzzer game promotes healthy competition and entertaining learning which keeps students engaged.
This is a year of growth and essential learning for my 5th graders.
They will soon be moving on to middle school. The items I have requested will help support their lifetime learning and prepare them for the journey ahead. Writing well is an essential skill in education and the real world. The books and technology tools I've requested will impact my current 5th grade class and many more students to come.
