This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students develop skills needed for kindergarten, providing them with rich experiences leads to a great foundation in early literacy development. To build early writing skills, students use a variety of tools to create illustrations for expression that lead to writing. Our Spanish Dual Immersion students are encouraged to write in the target language and are excited to write using a variety of writing tools. Our present writing center provides exposure to environmental print, stationary, pencils, and crayons. Adding a variety of colorful writing instruments would be a great addition in promoting early writing skills.
Writing tools such as markers, colored pencils, and dot markers would inspire students to create colorful pictures that lead to language expression.
TK Students develop pre-writing skills such as drawing and letter formation as their foundation as early writers. Students benefit by creating images and written expressions that reflect their interests. Students also use the writing center to express feelings that cannot be expressed initially through words, but can be drawn to express how they feel. Our class promotes social well-being through art, teaching social-emotional zones of regulation, and an array of artistic approaches.
Overall, our young students are enthusiastic about learning and enjoy all the play-based activities provided. They will benefit greatly from the writing tools that will help encourage them to express themselves through written creative mediums. The sustainable materials will provide the students with many months of use and will be taught how to properly care for the materials. The writing tools will also be used for the following year for the benefit of future students.
