This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The Kindergarten students at my Title 1 school are kind, innocent, and excited about education. I want to keep them excited and engaged throughout their learning career.
Their favorite way to learn is through using technology.
We currently have three iPads in our class that we use from 8:00am until 3:45pm when the last student leaves. With these, my students learn their letters, letter sounds, how to decode words, build words, listen to stories, read and write sight words, create sentences, add, subtract, identify numbers, compare numbers, identify shapes, responsibility, and more. All the while, they are having so much fun. They don't want to go to lunch or clean up for PE because they are having too much fun learning in our classroom.
I choose to teach my 5 and 6 year old students to be responsible for their own learning, and motivate them to love reading, writing, math, science, making friends, and attending school. They know how much I care for them, and they know how hard I work to get new things for our classroom. Finally, they know that our classroom is only as fun and successful as it is because of class volunteers and donors like you.
My Project
Kids in school are tired of the old song and dance. They get almost nothing out of lectures and ancient teaching strategies, they learn from and are inspired by technology.
I use the iPad mini to motivate kids and encourage them to complete an assignment, and then the iPad they worked so hard for reinforces those skills and teaches new ones.
My students would rather play a learning app on the iPad than go to PE or Recess outside. WHAT?! Learning over playing? Yes. With this requested iPad mini I will begin using QR codes in our classroom for fun learning activities. We're so excited.
