This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Greetings and thank you for taking a moment to read about my wonderful students. My name is Ms. Jones and this school year got off to a very rocky start for my students and all of the staff in our community. I decided to make the best out of a daunting situation and create, yet again, a positive, uplifting environment for my students. They deserve nothing less than that. This year, I have the pleasure of teaching my students, a culmination of social-emotional, leadership, self-regulatory, social media etiquette, and academic skills. These areas of focus are so essential when teaching students with disabilities as they may not have experienced such intentionality in these areas rather indirect exposure. It has been a pleasure to see them try new things from breathing mediation, music and art therapy, physical movement (stretching/yoga), behavioral self-correction, grounding, concentration, task completion and academic awareness, which all accumulates to increased academic performance. To say the least, I am proud to see them rise to the occasion whether small or big in effort. When considering some students have experience chronic failure, disappointment and discouragement when it involves academics. I am glad to know that our learning strategies class can bridge the between my students' personal development toward academic success.

Furthermore, the materials needed to advance my class will allow students to be prepared for class from writing utensils, corrective items, and art supplies to harness their creativity.

When we engage in our "Wellness Wednesday" Activities, they will be able to move comfortably and the yoga mats, resistance bands and weights will allow them to embrace the process using the appropriate equipment necessary. Thank you for your time and consideration.
