Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Studies have shown that students who are read aloud to become better readers!
My elementary school library serves almost 500 kindergarten - sixth grade students.
For many of these students, English is their second language and, because they often have a limited vocabulary, it's especially hard for them to become adept readers. Audio books are beneficial and enjoyable for all children, but even more so for these students.
My Project
Audio books will do so much to help our students become better readers and discover the joy of books. Students will have the opportunity to read books that may be beyond their reading levels and to increase their language and vocabulary. I have selected audio versions of Newbery Award winners like "Walk Two Moons," "Bud Not Buddy," "The Giver," and "Island of the Blue Dolphins," as well as other classic and new titles. Since I have print versions in the library, students will be able to read along.
My students are so curious and eager to learn.
They love stories and books but often their reading levels keeps them from enjoying books. Audio books would be such a wonderful thing for these students. Thank you so much for your help.
