My students need acrylic paints, brushes, and mixing trays to paint story rocks.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wines's classroom raised $350

My Students
Plain rocks rest on students' desks, awaiting the possibilities. With creativity, acrylic paints, brushes, and palettes, these plain beach rocks will soon be transformed into storytelling rocks. Writing is a vital skill, and this inventive project will help my students' writing to flourish.
My students are an amazing group of 5th graders.
They attend a small, underfunded, charter school in Hawaii. These students have formed strong bonds of friendship as most have been together since kindergarten. The students come from a range of economic levels, but most are lower income with both parents working, or single-parent families. It would not be an understatement to say that the families struggle to make ends meet. However, my students love learning. They are risk-takers and will try their best at any task. I was their 4th grade teacher, and I am moving up, or looping, with them to 5th grade. I see the immense possibilities that are within these students. They will thrive. They are creative and relish new ideas and concepts. My students are the future. I see it in their eyes and hearts. Each one is unique, special, and deserves every opportunity to succeed.
My Project
Rocks sitting on a desk are just rocks, until they are allowed to be transformed. I am requesting three different pint sets of acrylic paints in primary, brights, and molten metals colors. These vibrant color choices will help to inspire creativity. In addition, I am also requesting paint brushes for acrylics and mixing palettes so my students will be able to transform their rocks into storytelling rocks. Storytelling and writing are vital skills that every student needs. Writing takes practice and practice can quickly become boring. With these painting resources, my plan is to take the boring out of writing and interject a big dose of fun and inspiration. By painting their rocks, the students will learn valuable art skills with their unique "canvas". In addition, art is being intertwined with writing creating multiple pathways to learning. To add to that, the painting resources will continue to be of value as they will be used in other art projects. Thank you!
By supporting this project, you are opening up a door of opportunity to my students.
Writing skills are essential for success in life. Using storytelling rocks that they each have created my students will truly own the stories they write. When a student feels ownership, they are more likely to do their best, and thus learn more. The benefit of the art supplies is twofold. Not only will my students create art, they will become inspired writers with endless possibilities.
