Inspiring Stories: A Journey of Growth and Discovery
Help me give my students books like Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Esperanza Rising, The Giver, and Number the Stars to inspire a love of reading, critical thinking, and personal growth through diverse perspectives.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What I love most about my students is their resilience, creativity, and desire to learn, despite the challenges they face growing up in a Title I district. Many of them come from underprivileged backgrounds, yet they are eager to explore the world beyond their immediate environment. They are dreamers, problem-solvers, and deep thinkers, and they inspire me every day to bring the world to them through books and education.
The specific books I’m requesting—Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Esperanza Rising, The Giver, and Number the Stars—will provide them with diverse perspectives and powerful stories of perseverance, courage, and hope.
These novels not only connect to historical and social issues but also help my students build critical thinking skills, empathy, and self-awareness. Reading these stories will allow my students to see themselves in the characters while learning about different cultures and periods in history. They will be able to engage in meaningful discussions and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
My goal for this project is to foster a love of reading and create a classroom environment where every student feels empowered to explore new ideas and perspectives. I want them to develop confidence in their reading and comprehension skills while also growing emotionally through the powerful stories we will read together.
What makes my students special is their determination to succeed in an environment that may not always offer them the resources they deserve. They are proof that, with the right tools and opportunities, every child can thrive and reach their full potential. These books will be a gateway for them to dream bigger and achieve more.
