This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic, creative, and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day with a bright smile ready to learn and brighten my day!
Our school is an Urban Planning Magnet and we strive to educate our students to be independent thinkers and challenge them to find solutions to problems by using real life situations from their own communities.
I want my students to be active participants in their environment! I strive to go above and beyond in the classroom to improve and maintain student achievement. I am so very lucky to teach 25 highly inquisitive kindergartners; they give my life meaning!
In order to maintain the high expectations set for our students and to differentiate instruction for all students, classrooms need updated materials. Thanks to Donors Choose, teachers have a way to update technology, replace art supplies, and increase center materials in their classroom in order to enhance learning. My students and I are grateful for all the Donors who Choose to donate to this wonderful organization. You are touching the lives of children!
My Project
A listening center is a must in a kindergarten classroom! My students always love being read to. I have a cozy and inviting classroom library with inspirational reading quotes everywhere. I make reading a big deal! During centers time, my kiddos love sitting down and listening to a book while having an individual book in their hands so they don't have to look over their friends heads to get a look at the picture. Unfortunately, we only have two book sets because they are so expensive! This is why DonorsChoose.org is amazing!
Listening centers help students in their journey to becoming fluent readers!
They can help students learn to trace word for word in books and help them learn to recognize words. After listening to a story together, they have a conversation about the story they just read, furthering reading comprehension!
These listening center read-along books will be incorporated into our WIN time (what I need) where we focus on ELLP (Early Language & Literacy Plan) where students work in small groups (4-5 students) on various activities and rotate every 6-10 minutes to all stations.
If my students take one thing with them for the rest of their lives, I would want it to be how important reading is. "You can find an adventure wherever you look, sit back and relax, all you need is a book." -Dr. Seuss
