Inspiring Multicultural Books for Budding Artists!
Help me give my students a classroom art library filled with books that teach creativity and perseverance and also books that focus on artists from diverse backgrounds.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is a year of changes for me, a new school, a new content area, and a new way of teaching. I am excited to start this new year teaching Art for the first time after teaching Math for many years and I'm happy to meet my new students. I know from learning about the school that the community is similar to my old school community, loving, caring, supportive, but also in need of resources.
My students are so creative and excited to learn more even though they may be facing some challenges.
I am inspired every day by their resilience and willingness to learn and create!
My Project
I am creating this project to grow our art classroom library. I believe that it is important to also incorporate the love of reading into the love of art. These books included are all books that are suggested and told to be great for teaching art in the classroom. I've found that they also focus on teaching creativity, perseverance, and inspiring those students who may struggle to see themselves as artists.
It is important to me to tell the stories of artists that often get overshadowed to my students, artist that they may be able to identify with.
Most of the books included focus on multicultural artists and female artists who have worked hard and used their gifts to change the world. I want to be able to inspire my students and show them that they can do the same!
