Inspiring Minds to Construct Testable Science Investivations

My students need Science World Scholastic Magazine to help them construct testable hypotheses that are interesting to them, and to help students build science background knowledge in a fun and informative way through reading the articles.

My Students

Students in my science classes are high achievers who have placed into Honors Biology their freshman year of high school. Many of my students are taking multiple Honors classes, and participate in extracurricular activities.

My students are highly motivated, curious, and eager to test their hypotheses.

They want to be academically challenged, and enjoy learning about science. Students participate in a semester research project during the first half of the school year wherein they write a scientific research paper concerning a topic of their choice. Some students present the results of their study at a research conference in Spring that is held at a local University.

My Project

Throughout the school year, my science students construct testable hypotheses and carry out investigations that they design. Students are given the freedom to test variables that they are interested in learning more about; however, some students are not sure where to begin. A class subscription to Science World Scholastic Magazine will provide my students with relatable science stories that may spark an idea in their mind concerning what to further investigate. The subscription will also allow me to scaffold student learning, regarding how to cite, organize, and present the results of a scientific investigation. Each student will practice citing articles. Student groups will practice presenting articles to the class.

I want students to think critically about information that is presented to them in text, and in presentation; therefore, students will present their laboratory designs, results, and analysis to their peers.

Classmates then critique the work that is presented to them. A class subscription to Science World will provide each student with the footing needed to confidently carry-out and present a group-designed investigation to the class.
