Inspiring Kindergarten Mathematicians

Help me give my students with diverse needs math centers that inspire engineering. Meeting all their needs can be challenging with the wide range of math skills my students have. I want them to LOVE math!

My Students

I have 21 kindergarten students who range in ages 5-6. I have a challenging class with some students having had previous pre-school experience and some having never held a pencil or experienced school in a structured setting. Our class is very diverse in ethnicities, special needs and socio-economic backgrounds. ALL of our students are from military families and we are a Title 1 School (low income). Each of my students has at least one parent serving our country so there is a lot of transiency throughout the school year. While my students are in our classroom I want to be able to give them the support, structure, stability, and tools they need to thrive and feel safe, loved, and accepted.

My Project

I have unique students with diverse needs. Meeting all their needs can be challenging with the wide range of math skills my students have. They need supports that can let them practice individual math skills in fun and exciting ways. I want to give them opportunities to build during math and at the same time they can practice other math skills such as counting, organizing, and creating. By using the Early Math Instant Learning Centers from Lakeshore my students will practice and master their standards in Counting and Cardinality and Operations and Algebraic Thinking. The Number Sequence Puzzles and Pop and Add Game from Lakeshore will help the students master the Number in Operations in Base 10 standards. To help master their Measurement, Data, and Geometry standards I will use the Magna Tiles, Pattern Block Design Cards, 3D Magnetic Builders, and Geoboard Design Centers.
