This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, I work with students who have additional special needs, both in the resource room and in their regular classrooms. All of my students struggle to fit in and keep up with their typical classmates. They long to stand out because of their strengths rather than their difficulties.
Many of my students are also English language learners and belong to immigrant families.
This makes it difficult for the families to assist their children at home with homework or general reading and writing practice. At school, students are often dependent on others to help them complete class assignments. I would love to give them the tools to increase their independence!
My Project
With access to Chromebooks, my students with poor fine motor skills will be able to improve their typing ability. This will help them to more efficiently manage writing tasks. Those who are non-readers can chose to have books read to them while they follow along independently in order to complete class assignments.
Many of my students struggle to learn and maintain new skills.
They often become discouraged at school and fatigue easily because they must work so hard. Many of the students are also easily distracted and have difficulty maintaining attention to typical teacher lessons. Using Chromebooks, the children would be able to use highly motivating programs to review and practice skills and to supplement classroom lessons.
