Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a tuition-free, public charter elementary school located in East Los Angeles. The mission of our school is to teach the knowledge and skills, nurture the confidence and character, and inspire the passion needed for students to achieve their goals, excel in the competitive world, and positively impact the community through excellence in thought and action. Our school has earned the California Distinguished School award and has been named a National Blue Ribbon School as well.

Children need role models to look up to.

Students enjoy learning about important people who accomplished incredible goals and changed history. However, classroom libraries do not always have these types of books. Books about amazing women who demonstrated bravery and grit need to be more prevalent in schools.

My Project

Students love reading about historical heroes and inspiring figures. It is important for all students to read about the women who have helped change the world. It is especially important for girls to have role models to look up to.

Now more than ever, we need to build the confidence in girls to become the future change-makers of the world.

We do that by having them read about Jane Goodall, Ada Lovelace, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Dolores Huerta, Sally Ride, Mae Jemison, Katherine Johnson, Misty Copeland, Patricia Bath, Sonia Sotomayor and more. Girls need to remember they too can demonstrate the courage to forge their own path in life, just like the women who came before them.

Having books about inspiring women will help inspire young girls to become the best person they can be and help make the world a better place.
