Inspiring Future Engineers Through Model Rocketry!

My Project
The Rocketry Club I run is made up of students grades 6-12 with a passion for Engineering and Mathematics. They all have different expertise in rocketry, which creates an atmosphere of high-level thinking, and discussion. Students will gain skills such as critical thought, teamwork, CAD design, 3D printing, application of physics concepts, and much more.
They are competing in a national rocket building competition called "The American Rocketry Challenge" affiliated with NASA and the Department of Defense. They are currently working on building a model rocket which will reach a height of over 800 feet while at the same protecting an egg lodged inside the rocket.
The collaboration has been amazing. They have been meeting weekly, and even spending time together outside of school. Their goal is to win the contest, and then enter the international competition.
We plan to utilize model rocket building supplies, and launch equipment such as: an altimeter; a launch pad; engines; a model rocket simulator; body tubes; nose cones; parachutes; fins; alignment guides; decorative items; and many other necessary materials for the primary rocket design.
This classroom project was brought to life by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)
