This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in East Harlem. They come from diverse backgrounds and many, from tough homes. They often seek to escape the world around them, and for many, they find their escape through the use of technology. Technology is a unifying topic that my students love to talk and learn more about.
My students crave ownership of their learning.
They question because they want to know more and care about their education. They are constantly challenging themselves to do better and to seek answers. They are creative and creators.
My Project
My students will use these materials to show creativity and innovation. We will expand on STEM learning; although my students use technology, they are often told how to use it. Having Makey Makey kits will allow them to be creators and push them to think creatively in how they are using technology and resources around them.
My students can be creative; it is a matter of providing them with the tools that will enable them to be innovative and creative.
Through the use of Makey Makey kits students will think critically and use these skills to push their coding skills as we move further into our STEM curriculum.
