My Project

The materials I am requesting will empower my students at this Title 1 charter school in an urban community to explore the rich cultural traditions of Ancient African, Native American, and Hispanic art. Many of my students face challenges such as limited access to quality supplies and fewer opportunities for cultural enrichment. By providing tools like paints, brushes, clay, and plaster, they will have the chance to learn authentic techniques, from tribal patterns to symbolic beadwork, allowing them to connect deeply with these diverse cultures.

The goal of this project is to immerse students in these rich art traditions, teaching them about identity, spirituality, and storytelling through visual expression.

As they research and create their artwork, they will gain essential skills in critical thinking, research, and presentation, boosting their confidence and giving them a sense of pride in their abilities. This art show will be an opportunity for them to present their work in a professional setting, showcasing their creativity and hard work.

What makes these students special is their resilience and creativity. Despite facing significant challenges, they are eager to learn and express themselves through art. Many of our scholars are first-generation students who are excited to explore new cultures and connect with the world through creative expression. By supporting this project, you will help them celebrate their creativity, gain cultural understanding, and find confidence in their artistic potential.
