My Students

My students are typical 8th-grade history students. Some are super invested in learning history, usually because their parents have a passion for it. Others are a bit wary and are hesitant to dive deeply into the past. The rest seem indifferent until something interesting sparks their interest. Once I find that one thing that hooks them, I've got their attention and we have so much fun discussing our country-the good, the great, the bad, the ugly-and they want to know more.

My Project

Learning about the Constitution and our government can be difficult for adults to understand, let alone students in 8th grade. However, with our ever-changing world, it is super important that up-and-coming voters and leaders have a basic knowledge of our country's structure. These books make hard topics easier to access and put difficult language on a level that is easier to grasp. They also provide insights into the intricacies of the American political system. My job as a teacher is held create civic-minded students in preparation for that opportunity to vote. These books will go a long way in helping to do that.
