Do you remember when you were first learning to read or to ride a bike? Do you remember the magic of experimenting with sand and water? Help me create a space where my students can explore books, their own balance and early science.
Kindergarten today is much more academic than what you may remember from your own school days.
The youngest students in the class are often at a disadvantage as they try to compete with peers who may be a full year older than them. I am excited to be teaching a transitional kindergarten class this year, offering children with fall birthdays a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with kindergarten standards. For many of my students, this is their first experience with formal education. I have 24 students in my class. They are energetic, curious and so ready to learn. This year will lay the foundation to their future success in education. I want them to end the year with a love for school and learning, and ready to be leaders in their kindergarten class next year. My students are very diverse, both socio-economically and culturally. They are smart, sweet, and sometimes sassy. I love teaching this age group!
My Project
Although most of my students will not be reading by the end of this year, I want them to love books and want to continue learning to read. The sofas that I am requesting are made specifically for smaller children and will create a cozy nook next to our book shelves. They will be intrigued by the smaller size and will be more likely to relax and enjoy the books. The new books are highly engaging and perfect for emerging readers. The sand and water tables will help my students sensory development and will allow us to do mini science experiments. My students have a lot of energy when we go out to our blacktop. Their ability to focus in class is definitely enhanced by our breaks for physical activity. Many of my students do not know how to ride a bike. Instead of simply running around the playground, they will be able to scoot along on balance bikes and begin to understand the balance required for successful bike riding.
The sand and water tables, sofas, books and balance bikes will promote inquisitiveness and learning while meeting the developmental needs of my students.
Your donation will greatly enhance my students' enjoyment and learning during this first, crucial year of formal education.
