Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach over 500 students ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade at a Title I school. My students live in a rural part of South Carolina and come from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
My students are creative, smart, and eager to have hands-on learning activities that will prepare them to become 21st-century learners.
I want all of my students to have the opportunity to create artwork with all the materials they need and provide them with a fun, engaging, and hands-on learning environment.
My Project
Recently, my 2nd through 5th grade students completed their first round of painting and paper sculpture projects. They did an amazing job making 3D paper masks and painting realistic self-portraits, patterned nesting dolls, and crayon resist lions. While researching upcoming painting projects, my students and I came across a number of neon painting and drawing projects. Even my most reluctant painters were hooked on the idea of using neon to create bright, eye catching artwork!
With hundreds of students creating artwork at once, our art program constantly needs to restock consumable goods like paint, heavy weight paper, and construction paper.
Many times my initial budget is used to purchase materials that need to be replaced yearly. By funding our project, you will provide over 500 students with paint, heavy weight paper, and neon construction paper they are excited to use!
