This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a tuition-free public charter elementary school located in East Los Angeles. The mission of our school is to teach the knowledge and skills, nurture the confidence and character, and inspire the passion needed for students to achieve their goals, excel in the competitive world, and positively impact the community through excellence in thought and action. Our school has earned the California Distinguished School award and has been named a National Blue Ribbon School as well.

Most students who live in low-income neighborhoods do not have the resources or support to think of themselves as innovative thinkers.

I want to change that. My 2nd grade classroom is a place of creativity and discovery. My students are beyond excited to create inventions and explore new materials. Providing unique learning experiences is important for developing the leaders of tomorrow.

My Project

Sphero SPRK+ balls is a great way to teach robotics and programming to young minds. Students will work in small groups and learn the fundamental aspects of coding and design thinking skills. Students will be able to teach their ball simple commands like roll, flip, spin, and color change. They will also create more complex instructions for their robot to follow.

Students will learn to think and act like engineers, exposing them to real world problems and the 4C’s (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking).

If this projects gets funded, students will be learning the skills of the future while having fun at the same time.
