Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a newly opened high school and we are running on hand-me-down equipment!
My students represent a diverse range of backgrounds and share a common goal to maximize their high school experience.
Some of my students are English-Language Learners and some are the first in their family to take an Advanced Placement(AP) course. The majority of my students are from minority backgrounds that are not typically well-represented in AP mathematics courses.
My Project
These TI-Nspire calculators will serve three purposes. First, the addition of five classroom calculators will expand access to technology and insure that students of all backgrounds can operate with the highest level of available equipment.
Second, the calculators will allow for cohesive instruction between the AP Calculus and AP Statistics courses (which, as of now, require two different graphing calculators). Last, the Nspire is becoming the calculator of choice for most higher-level institutes, so training students in its usage is critical for the pursuit of higher education.
Mathematics can be a very difficult subject; however strong quantitative skills are vital for a student's future success.
Most of the higher paying careers in this country require strong mathematical reasoning skills. As such, it is important to support effective mathematics education to populations that are traditionally under served.
