Inspire Creativity Through STEAM in Kindergarten

My Students

"Whew! I can feel my brain getting bigger!" These are the words I heard yesterday after a particularly tough lesson. It makes my heart happy. I love teaching Kindergarten because they are so excited to learn and willing to try hard. They grow up right in front of your eyes and it is so fun to watch.

The students in my class this year are so united that even the PE teacher says he's never seen anything like it!

They travel in packs, they do everything together, and they really watch out for one another. They are so creative, whether it is outside collecting ice chunks, or "bones" as they call them, to assemble a dinosaur skeleton, or cooking meals for one another in our play kitchen.

They love to sing, and if one of them starts a song, the rest will join in and sing along. If one of them is hurt, they all surround them and love them until all is well again. I've never seen such a united group of friends and I hope they stay this way through all of school.

My Project

I am a true believer in the benefit of play. Kids are coming to us without the social skills that are so often learned by playing together. This is why our play centers are invaluable.

I want to fill my classroom with STEAM toys that will inspire creativity, ingenuity, and imagination.

I want to appeal to the future engineers, the future doctors, the artists, the musicians, the mothers and fathers, and everything in between.

So much learning can occur away from the desk, and these kids deserve the very best.
