My students need dictionaries and Thesauruses to help them become versatile when it comes to using other resources other than the internet, TIME magazine to broaden their horizon, and seat sacks to help with organization.
My students become my own kids, not only for the 180 days of school, but also after school has ended. My students look to me as their second mom, their comfort zone, their number one cheerleader, etc. My students are inspirational and imaginative and I have created this project to help continue to inspire them and further their imaginative nature.
My students are inspirational because regardless of their low socio economic statuses, they try their hardest to put their best foot forward to succeed each day in school.
Our arts integrated school offers our students a unique opportunity to learn by incorporating the arts into our core curriculum. Another reason my students are special is because they embrace the uniqueness of the kind of education our school provides for our students.
My Project
The internet is great but we must not forget how to use other sources other than the internet.
When students go to the school library or the public library, they may not always have access to the internet to look up meanings of unfamiliar words.
By having the knowledge of how to use a dictionary or thesaurus, my students will be versatile if the internet is not available.
I have requested a TIME magazine subscription for my classroom because most of my students have not traveled outside of their hometown. By having a TIME magazine subscription, I feel that it will give my students an opportunity to read about what is going on in the world around them. Not only will having a TIME magazine subscription allow them to have a look outside of their limited scope, but it will also help with their reading and comprehension of non-fiction text. The articles in TIME magazine will help to keep my students engaged in what they are reading and will help them with the concept of pulling out important information from the articles.
Seat sacks are being requested to help with student organization. Last year, I noticed that my students struggled with keeping their desks organized. Our school provided cubbies for them within the classroom, however, it became a place for them to shove papers in and in turn at the end of every day, it looked like a trash can had exploded. With these seat sacks, my students will be able to keep their papers in their folders which will go inside their seat sacks-neatly organized. My students will also be able to keep their daily journals and interactive notebooks stored in their seat sacks which will allow for quick and easy access as well as free up desk space.
