This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My second-grade students are curious, creative, and full of ideas! This year, we’re diving into a unit all about insects, and I want to give them a chance to explore science, writing, and art in a way that’s exciting and hands-on. I’m requesting insect models and modeling clay supplies to bring our learning to life!

Students will observe and study insect models to write nonfiction books and stories.

Then they’ll build their own 3D insect models out of clay, applying what they’ve learned about insect body parts and structures.

This project brings together science, writing, and art in a way that’s meaningful and memorable. When students can hold their own model of their own insect creation, it deepens their understanding and builds pride in their work. These experiences help students see themselves as authors, scientists, and artists—all at once.
