it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, students are just discovering a passion for reading. They are eager to devour the books in our classroom library, but they are limited because our school does not have a physical library on campus.
Our students are interested in a wide variety of genres.
They crave books on sports, science, and graphic novels. They are driven to go to college and want to pursue careers that will make an impact on the world. As a teacher, I am devoted to encouraging these dreams, but I know that a love for reading is key for their success.
My Project
Students have found books in our classroom library that have kickstarted a love for reading. However, the students' options are currently limited and do not cover a wide variety of genres. For example, several students are passionate about sports, but I don't have any books to feed this interest. Many have asked me for the next book in a series, or they want to check out a book that another student is already reading. I have started bringing some books from home, but that is a limited option considering they want new, fresh books. As a result, I've chosen books in a series, graphic novels, fantasy books, and more to bring in new readers in the classroom and provide a wider menu for experienced readers.
A love for reading is key to the success of students, but the students at my school are often unable to find a bus to a library or to a bookstore.
They need a varied classroom library to support their passion for reading over the long-term. Your donation would help make sure that these students have access to texts that can engage them and promote their interests through reading.
