My urban chemistry students need more hands-on experience with their probes! We got a good start last year, now we need to ramp it up!
Last year, my classroom received 5 data loggers and temperature probes, allowing my class to work 3-4 students/group. I saw normally struggling students really understanding chemistry concepts! However, with groups that large, not every student got to really work hands-on, which is essential for deep understanding.
With three more data loggers/probes, my students will be able to work almost exclusively in pairs, allowing every student to get hands-on experience and real learning! With the temperature probe as our only available probe, there are at least a dozen directly applicable labs for the students to do in chemistry (and at least that many in earth science!), all correlated to state learning standards -- we are ready to roll! Students will need to use this type of equipment in college science classes and in real-life applications such as labs, field studies and medical facilities. I want them to be prepared!
