My students need non fiction books about five senses, balls and ramps to go with our science units and building sets and Knex to allow them to learn to use their minds.
Keeping a group of five and six year olds actively engaged for over six hours a day can be a challenge. We do our best every day to stay positive and help our classmates out.
This year my students are a very diverse group of kids with a variety of needs.
Most kids in my class have had no previous schooling so it has been challenging for them to get to where they are expected to be at this point in the year, when they came in as a blank slate. They are enthusiastic about learning and I hope they are inspired by those around them to try their best and develop a love of school and learning. Many of them are non English speakers and are teaching me new things each day. I have students who have different needs and interests. My school is a very small school compared to others in our district, this allows us to be a very close group of teachers and students who are always looking out for each other and helping in any way we can.
My Project
My students will be able to access the nonfiction sight word readers as well as be able to hear books about the science units we are doing in class. My kids will have a great time working together building masterpieces with the building set and the k'nex. They will be able to get creative with the beads and the art supplies. The iPad will allow the students to be challenged or help them learn new skills with the amazing amount of free apps you can get. We have choice time at the end of each day where kids can choose an activity. These materials will be great for the different needs in my classroom.
With the variety of interests and academic levels in my classroom these materials will allow me to reach all of my students in the way that works for them.
My students will have multiple different things to choose from during choice time. With the nonfiction sight word readers they will build confidence in their reading skills and hopefully want to read more. They will be able to be creative and design and build things. All of these materials will be able to be used for years to come.
