Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in our school are the bright lights of the future. Our school is a positive atmosphere that serves a population of students that are below poverty level, majority ESL and first generation college. Our staff is multifaceted in many areas, which stimulates the growth of the many areas of our students' imagination and partnership in learning. Our 9-12th grade is mostly made up of students who are bused to our school from our district which has a great deal of low-income homes, who receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students are energetic about learning new things to open their horizons and explore new and exciting things, even though their environments say otherwise.

My students are students that picked our school because of academics and the different opportunities they are exposed to, but because our school is small there are financial obstacles that hinder our exploratory vision.

Even though our students still prevail, there are so many things that could assist our student body to greatness. The drive of our students is unstoppable, but we need to help by enhancing their environment.

My Project

This year we are starting a computer science pathway, which will began to foster a new and exciting journey into computer science within a high school setting. This will began to lay a foundation of logic and problem solving skills, which work hand and hand with computer science and other STEM subjects within school. To be able to help this process along we need help creating an environment which contains books that foster this growth mindset.

My AP Computer Science Principles students need a library of resources to embark on learning as independent learners into the new and growing world of computer science.

The books that I have requested will foster a setting inside and outside the classroom about coding and programming in different languages in computer science. These resources will encourage students to hold peer-to-peer discussions about the programming languages such as python and the fundamentals of computer science. This books will also aid in my students getting ready to take the AP test in CSP(Computer Science Principles). The resources are comprised of multiple books about different computer languages that they can enjoy through exploration and novels about girls in computer science, so that maybe we can expose more females to this field. By being able to receive these items through a gift, it will free up resources to enable more students to embark on the world of computer science.
