My fifth-grade students are on their last stop in their elementary school career. Teaching them greater responsibility and accountability is an important part of this year. It is essential that they leave here equipped to succeed in a much larger and more demanding educational setting.
I love the energy and enthusiasm my fifth graders have.
I also love it when they tackle a challenge and work hard towards goals we set together or individually. My students get my sense of humor and we can laugh together. They are also ready to take on greater independence. I have been impressed with their ability to adapt under challenging circumstances as we navigate this unusual school year. Our school is a neighborhood walking school and many of the students have gone to school together for several years. They know each other well and work well together, which is also a boon.
Our classroom has many opportunities for students to take charge of their learning and to have ownership in what takes place. My goal is that they will leave my classroom confident and prepared for what lies ahead.
My Project
The pandemic and the resulting disruptions have impacted student learning, leaving gaps to fill and deficits to overcome. The resources I am requesting will be used specifically to target reading and math skills for students who are behind or who might benefit from reinforcement in areas where they demonstrate a need. I am hoping to utilize these games and manipulatives for both independent and small group work. My goal is to increase my student's engagement in their learning and add variety as well as interest to the work that they must do to get caught up and keep moving forward.
