My students need littleBits for richer STEM and electronics projects. Servos, motors, arduinos, and more will allow for brand new learning opportunities.

My Students
My students are engaged in computer projects and hands-on exercises with 3D printers and robots. They compete in contests and design 3D printed items. There are no two days that are alike nor any two student projects that are alike. It is exciting for both students and teachers.
My students enthusiastically take my computer and technology courses as electives.
There are an average of 15-25 students, a diverse group of boys and girls, in each of my six classes plus another dozen or so students who find their way into the computer lab to work on 3D printer or competition projects after school. Maker technologies and STEAM programs have recently developed in our building and curricular programs. Exciting learning opportunities await students who have the chance to use cutting edge 3D printers, quadcopters, new programming languages, and electronics. New groups of students, especially girls and junior high school students, are being attracted to these courses.
My Project
Currently, my students create computer programs that send output on a computer screen. With this project they and a wider audience will have the chance to “see” the results of their code with practical projects. In fact, fun projects like controlling robots, lights, and making music will help recruit students into our computer science elective courses. Also, younger elementary students will use the littleBits kits and well-developed website tutorials to design and produce electronics projects without the difficulty and danger of soldering. When my nine-year old daughter and other children were drawn to the ease of putting together littleBits at a recent demonstration, I knew that this product is perfect for the elementary workshops that I teach. Students will design, tinker, experiment, innovate, and invent with littleBits. They will understand and see how electricity, lights, motors, and circuits solve problems and produce interesting results.
Students from a wide range of ages from 10 to 18 will learn electronics and STEM topics that did not exist before in our school.
With the exciting pace of innovations to smartphones, the Internet of Things, and electronic wearables in students’ lives and inspiring ideas from KickStarter and Shark Tank, they will now be inspired to try out ideas for themselves. There will be new problem-solvers, inventors, and even entrepreneurs as a result of their explorations with littleBits.
