This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative and intelligent! I am a Kindergarten teacher at a small inner city elementary school in a high poverty area of Los Angeles. My school is a Title I public school where 100% of our students receive free lunch. We have been greatly affected by the budget cuts to education in California. We need art supplies! My kinder students love art! They love to create works of art every day!

My students deserve to have the resources they need to express themselves creatively.

My students will use crayons on a daily basis to draw and share their experiences. We will use construction paper to make books, create art collages and to illustrate our creativity.

My Project

Your donation will give my young kindergarten students the tools they need to express themselves through art and more opportunities to create individual works of art on a daily basis. My kindergarteners will use these tools in a variety of academic subjects. My students will use crayons on a daily basis to draw and share their experiences. We will use construction paper and collage materials to make books, create art collages and to illustrate our ideas. People shapes will be used for students to decorate and represent themselves. Dough mats and rollers will be used during playdough time to help develop and strengthen their motor skills.

Learning in and through the visual arts involves participating with and understanding basic elements and principles of art.

These experiences will provide a vocabulary for children and a way of helping them talk about their own processes, products, and the works of other artists. Their engagement with the forms of learning in art—drawing, painting, printing, constructing, modeling, and sculpting—all involve the use and understanding of the following elements and principles within the visual-spatial domain of artistic learning.
