it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dear Kind Benefactor,
My 8th grade students do not understand the use of sciences in modern day careers. What my students need is to investigate a crime scene using the modern techniques of crime analysis. This will help them see the connection between science and well paying jobs. Listening to my students, I have learned that they love watching shows like CSI. What we need is to bring this experience into the classroom. I know that if we can do this project, my students will fall in love with science.
What I envision for this activity are students working in groups, using scientific skills such as observation, inference, hypothesis, etc. They will collect evidence and data including sampling and testing DNA. Students will be given different roles: Investigator, Lab Technician, Photographer, and Presenter.
