Inner-city Grade 5 Students Maintain Organic Garden

My students are in need of 16 all-weather student journals, 1 digital camera, 2 expo marker minders, 1 ream copy paper 3-hole punched, 1 genetics of plant seed set, 1 How Plants Survive book and assorted colored pencils.

This project is fully funded

Grade 5 at-risk students from a high need community interested in growing organic vegetables and herbs.

My students would like to revitalize our greenhouse by planting and growing organic vegetables and herbs to give to needy families.

My students are in need of journals, pencils, markers and folders, as well as name badges and a digital camera that will capture the entire experience from onset to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The students will benefit from the generous donations as the tools will help them gain an enhanced understanding of ecology and biology while refurbishing and maintaining our school greenhouse. They will gain excitement and an interest in taking care of living things (plants). This is an essential skill to have in the community the students are from as there are many negative images and occurrences they encounter daily. It will help establish in each individual student a greater appreciation for life, and all living things, including plants. The first unit of the project will be journaling about their ideas of beauty in the natural world and how plants add to that beauty. They will take pictures in nature to capture natural beauty and start an organic garden inside the greenhouse and outside the school.

Your assistance will help in creating a meaningful science learning experience that will support the need for organic growing service-learning.
