Inkvestigations - Printing our Digital Science Work

My students need two Hewlett-Packard Laser Jet toner cartridges for our new classroom printer.

My Students

Do you know the joy of creating something digitally? My students do. Though we work hard to reduce paper usage and printing, sometimes you just HAVE to print a hard copy! Ink is always on short supply at my school. Recently our printer quit working, and now we have a new printer in need of ink.

I teach science to approximately 150 big-hearted fifth graders in our school's departmentalized fifth grade academy.

In our academy approach, my talented teammates and I focus on teaching and modeling respect, manners, and citizenship in addition to developing rigorous academic programs for our students. Though my students come from a variety of backgrounds and situations, they strive to overcome every challenge that comes their way. Our school is racially, culturally, and economically diverse, and we are proud of the culture of success we have created that celebrates our differences and the unique qualities of each individual.

My Project

In my classroom, the technology, materials, and workspace are all shared. I enjoy having enough supplies on hand to ensure that each of my students can freely use the materials they need. I want them to be reassured that the work my fellow teachers and I assign is do-able, so I allow them to print for my class and other classes. I enjoy allowing my students to create with their one-to-one Chromebooks, and to make their work visually appealing. For this reason, we often need more printing supplies than what is provided by our school.

When my students feel enabled and empowered, their school-related stress is reduced.

When they have a low-stress school environment, it's easier to learn. These ink cartridges will let me continue "Empowering Students Through Art."
