This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a low-income school district and a school in which 97% of students are considered to be living below the poverty level, my students are not exposed to high-end technology and STEAM activities. Many of my students face academic challenges and household financial challenges.
Brownville, Texas is a border city of Mexico, some of my students come and go every day to Mexico.
Some of my students have to wake up as early as 5:00 in the morning just to get to school on time. This, however, does not stop my students from learning and from always trying to do their best. Expectations are still set high and they know there are no excuses not to excel. My students are humble, friendly, charismatic children. Each one of my students is special in their own unique way. My class consist of 19 incredibly amazing students. Of those 19 students, 14 are English Language Learners, two are artistically gifted and talented.
Our school believes that every child is capable of learning. Our goal as a school is to educate our students so that they can become productive citizens in today's and tomorrow’s society.
My Project
We are constantly doing research and science projects in our classroom. We do projects that enhance student learning as well as student technology engagement.
Having a classroom with 23 students can speed up the process of running low in ink.
It is very important not to stop the momentum that we currently have in the classroom. Students want to work on projects because they are proud of their work. Being able to print their work and display it in the hallways gives my students a sense of pride. They see it in the hallway and get excited when someone else takes an interest in their work. Seeing my students take pride in their work gives me great satisfaction because I know meaning learning is taking place.
