My Students
I teach at a low-income school in Mississippi. Students come to me with a variety of needs, both academic and social-emotional. They are always eager to learn. All of our students receive free lunch. My school is currently a C-rated school, but we are striving to become a B-rated school.
They are the shining stars who brave through some pretty tough home lives in order to excel in a safe, fun, engaging learning environment.
My hope is to provide my students with a colorful, warm classroom that is not only inviting but purposeful.
My Project
My students need ink to get handouts for activities we do in class. During our reading block students have to share books and this causes a distraction for many students. The ink would ensure every student has a copy of the story. My students are at the age where the foundation of education is being set and defined. One of the objectives that I must teach deals with central message of the story. Many of the students struggle because they do not have the story readily in front of them. My students all learn differently and must be taught accordingly. Handouts would benefit parents as well as students. Parents will be able to assist students with assignments at home because they will have a guide to go by. Having ink would also cut down on the writing or the note-taking in class. The printer toner will help students identify the material given, and it will incorporate a sense of excitement. There is a lack of resources at my school, and I have to copy leveled readers.
This project would significantly help my students' understanding that education is more than black and white.
My school doesn't have but one color copier, and it is used by office personnel. I am required to print all pictures or images on test in color. Without ink this is an impossible task. When reading color helps add visuals and helps the story come to life. Due to the size of my class and the limited resources (books) this ink would help with printing in the class.
