This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn, and determined to succeed. However, many of them are unable to bring in their own supplies, so it is up to me to make sure that they have what they need to learn. As their teacher, I want to be able to provide them with all the tools they need to succeed.
I am a second grade teacher in a title I funded public school on Staten Island.
I teach a 12:1:1 class with 12 students that have challenges ranging from learning disabilities to speech and language impairments and autism. They struggle to keep up with the Common Core Curriculum and need a lot of support. As their teacher, it is my job to do everything possible to make the curriculum accessible to them.
My Project
My students spend a lot of time creating projects and writing stories each year. Their favorite part of the writing process, is at the end, when they get to print their work in full color to display on our bulletin board, and to take home to show their parents. They want to take ownership of their learning and they show pride in their work.
Ink for our printer will also enable me to create more resources for our learning stations.
My students require a lot of differentiation according to their learning needs, so it is important that I have a wide range of games and resources available for them to use.
