Special education can be challenging but extremely rewarding. Especially if you teach in the South Bronx. My students come from a predominately low-income area and come from single-family households. 99% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches based on their socio-economic backgrounds and 25% of those students are special needs. My students face a multitude of problems in our school. Lack of proper funding for books and other essential needs, growing up in a high crime high poverty neighborhood, and a general culture that doesn't put an emphasis on a strong education.
My students are highly energized and visual learners.
They love working on computers and using technology. In my classroom, I push my students to become job and college ready. Throughout the year we explore how to write resumes, balance checkbooks, plan a dinner party, use Microsoft Office, use Google Drive, and design a house/room/zoo. This way my students are ready for the real world at a young age.
My Project
My students are extremely proud of their work and they should be because they have been working hard all year. Unfortunately, our classroom can not show off their greatness due to the fact that everything we do is on computers. My students are visual learners and would like our classroom to feel like it belongs to them. Even though our classroom is nicely decorated, there is something missing. Covid-19 makes being in the classroom a scary place and I would like to help create a more inviting environment. This is why it is extremely important to have ink cartridges for our classroom printer so my students will be able to print out their projects and assignments. With printer ink, we can create bulletin boards celebrating my students' greatness. My students would like the opportunity to print out their amazing projects and display them for the world (or at least our school) to see. Please help us make this a reality.
