Help me give my students what they need and deserve! I will provide flexible seating to all my students. Also, yoga and mindfulness will be top priority, so supplies are needed to set up the yoga space.
I have the privilege of teaching a beautiful group of humans just south of Chicago. One thing I adore about my school community is the cultural diversity and consistent efforts to grow. Many of the students in the community are raised in low income homes. All of my students have unique stories. Many have immigrated to the United States with a remarkable perspective and resilience. Some struggle with severe trauma. All of them deserve the best education possible. A kind of education that opens up doors to their courageous minds. A kind of education that instills hope and gives them a gentle nudge to follow their dreams.
My Project
The supplies will be used to set up a safe space for the students. Their social and emotional well being will be priority, so they can be fully present in their academics. Supplies provided will help me create a center for physical Asana yoga in my 5th grade classroom, a "Zen Den" for meditation, and seating that supports elementary students physical development and their need to wiggle it out!
Each day students will engage in mindfulness, meditation, and physical Asana yoga to enhance their self awareness.
Mental health issues is an epidemic. We must start prioritizing and teaching the skills at a young age, so that people have the self awareness and strategies to revisit when life throws them inevitable curve balls. This not only will help them in the future, but it will also increase their focus and investment in their day to day academic studies.
