Infusing Second Grade with Technology!

My students need 2 Chromebooks for use in the classroom as well as 2 management console licenses so I can manage what is being seen and done on each Chromebook.

My Students

Technology is all around us. We see it in every part of our day. Most of us use it in regularly in our daily lives. To get the children in my class prepared for the future, I want them to know and understand how they can use computers in meaningful ways, in their lives.

My kids show up up each day with bright smiles and eyes that are thirsty for knowledge.

They are ready to learn, and excited to be at school each and every day. The kids in our class come from many different backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. However, talking to the kids, you would have no idea. They all love each other, take care of each other, and take care of me.

My Project

I will use the Chromebooks to infuse our day to day learning with technology. The children will be able to read ebooks, play math games, type and publish their writing, research, and much more. The children will have a chance to get comfortable navigating with a mouse. They will not only learn how to conduct research and publish work, they will learn about the responsibility that comes with using technology. I will have a contract for them to sign about safe searches, Internet bullying, and following directions. These skills are not only important for my second graders now, but will be important as they grow older and become a part of the technological world that we live in. In addition to the Chromebooks I am asking for 2 Chrome Management Licenses so that I will be able to closely monitor how these computers are being used by each student, every time they are on the computers.

This project will greatly improve how I can differentiate the learning in my classroom.

It will change my students lives by giving them a chance to learn how to use a computer, and become comfortable problem solving. They will start to research using safe search on the Internet in second grade. It will give then a leg up when it comes time for them to do these things on their own. Furthermore, my students will be able to use these computers for years to come.
